I’m a very subtle person when it comes to fashion and jewelry. Being mostly an introvert, I prefer not to stand out or bring attention to myself. I hate small talk, and I do everything in my power to avoid having to deal with it.
Along those same lines, Mr. Troop and I don’t like to flaunt the fact that he’s in law enforcement. There are some families out there that love sporting their Thin Blue Line gear or apparel and accessories from their post or state. We are not one of those families. We are not ashamed of Mr. Troop. He is not ashamed of his job. We simply do it for a few different reasons.
1- As I mentioned in this post, everyone knows someone whose cousin is a police officer or whose brother got in some trouble with the law. When we wear our support out in public, it brings out all the people who want to seek advice. Occasionally we’ll get a thank you or kind words, but most often, someone is seeking legal advice in the middle of our dinner.
2- Call me paranoid, but with all the hate surrounding police officers these days, I don’t need people finding out what kind of car we drive, where we live, or where our kids go to school.
And, 3- Ad Mr. Troop says, “People just don’t need to know.” Obviously our friends and family know, but we’re just not going to shoot it from the rooftops. I’m not against anyone that wants to, but it’s not how our family rolls.
You’re not going to see me pull out of our garage with a Thin Blue Line bumper sticker, license plate cover, four window clings, and an air freshener. But also, I’m not a D who is going to shame you if this is your lifestyle!
However, I still strongly support Mr. Troop and the thin blue line. So, I’ve been on the hunt for subtle jewelry, apparel, and accessories. And, I’m happy to share what I have found!
STELLA AND DOT
My favorites come from KEEP Collective, which is now just Stella and Dot. I have many pieces from them, but I have three specific to Mr. Troop and his line of work.
The first is a police shield charm. I adore it with my whole being and am sad to report that they no longer carry it. However, the other two are my favorites because they’re personalized and I can talk about them if I want to.
Piece 1 is this silver heart with Mr. Troop’s badge number on it. I had wanted something with his badge number on it forever, but I wasn’t a fan of anything I found on Etsy or other sites. They were either too big or just not my style.
Piece 2 is this blue and gold geo bar that also has his badge number on it. I love this one because the colors of the geo bar match his uniform pretty closely. It’s unique and I’ve not met anyone else with a matching one.
Other options through Stella and Dot are to purchase individual numerals (which is what I was originally going to do, but I won the heart in a contest and Mr. Troop purchased the geo bar for me), purchase a band that matches your police officer’s uniform, or find any other combination of charms that represent your LEO (like these super cute aviators).
I’m going to be honest here and state that this option is not one for me. I know many police wives and police pages that have giveaways and love Origami Owl. However, it is not my style. That being said, it’s still a great option for someone who loves this type of jewelry because you can personalize it in whatever way you want! They have so many different options to choose from that you’ll be able to have a piece that fits your style and that you can build on if you want to.
I don’t know about your police officer, but mine refuses to wear his wedding band to work. Now, there are a few reasons behind this. Just like I don’t want to flaunt that he’s an officer, he doesn’t want everyone he comes in contact with to know that he’s married or has a family. It’s a safety thing. But I’m sure I don’t need to explain that to you. The other, and biggest, reason is that he doesn’t want to lose a finger in the event that something happens where his ring gets caught.
So, we went on the search for the perfect band he could work out in, wear around during everyday tasks, and wear to work if he decided to.
After an extensive search (we’re talking two weeks of research), we decided to try Groove Life and we love them.
They have a hero selection for men and women, and they’re so subtle! Mr. Troop went with the flag, and I went with a plain grey to start with but will be adding to my collection. It’s so comfortable and lightweight that I honestly forget I’m wearing it. Even more so than my actual wedding ring!
If jewelry isn’t your style, how about some workout gear? We 100% support companies that support law enforcement officers and Brute Force just so happens to have some awesome workout gear as well as some pretty great apparel. I’m a big fan of socks, and they often carry a law enforcement line as well as some shirts, sweaters, and tanks.
Aside from that, they have an entire line of sandbags in LEO blue! You can check out their website here (this is an affiliate link, so I may make a small profit from any purchases, at no cost to you!) or for more on Brute Force and why Mr. Troop trains with them, head to my review here.
BLACK RIFLE COFFEE
If jewelry isn’t your style, and you’re not into working out… You must drink something. I mean, everyone hydrates, right?
Drink coffee? This company is pretty great! I don’t drink coffee (I’m a hot chocolate kind of girl), but I do purchase it for Mr. Troop. They offer a thin blue line roast. And, if you like hats but not coffee, they have a pretty nice patch hat you can grab. Their collection isn’t too extensive, but what they have to offer is unique and delicious.
As far as thin blue line apparel goes, I don’t currently own any. I own about five shirts from Mr. Troop’s department, but I usually only wear them at home. Like I said before, it’s not that I don’t like them. And it’s certainly not because I don’t support Mr. Troop and the others standing tall for all of us. It’s simply because I don’t like to draw attention. If I find some subtle blue line apparel that is too cute to pass up, I’ll update my post! Or, if you have some thin blue line gear you think is great, drop me a comment and I’ll check it out! I’m always up for adding to my collection of clothes and jewelry.
