Are you in need of gift ideas for the LEO in your life? Whether it’s Father’s Day, graduation, Mother’s Day, or any other holiday, shopping can be a nightmare! Trying to come up with the perfect gift idea only to second guess yourself or have your significant other return it is never fun. So, in light of Father’s Day, I have compiled a list of 14 gift ideas that have been tried and loved by Mr. Troop and myself!

1. Blood type morale patches:
I would have never thought of this idea had Mr. Troop not specifically requested it. But, I’m so glad that he asked for it! The last thing you want to think about is your officer being in a situation in which he might need a blood transfusion. However, this idea will absolutely save a lot of time and worry.
I purchased two patches for Mr. Troop and he wears one on the front and one on the back of his vest. In the event that they would need to get him blood, his blood type is right there and visible so that there’s no need to search for paperwork, do testing, or make a phone call. It’s a small gesture to let your officer know that you are always concerned about them!
2. Flashlight and holster
Mr. Troop swears by a good flashlight for traffic stops! He was given this flashlight for his graduation from recruit school. I have purchased him several holsters for his flashlight, and the holsters tend to wear out a bit quicker than the flashlight itself.
In fact, the only reason Mr. Troop wants a new flashlight is due to the fact that the outside of it is getting scratched up from constantly being taken out and put back. Other than that, the flashlight is still in great working condition after five years. And, after I found this flashlight holster, we haven’t had a problem with having to replace the cheaper ones every few months.
He loves his Olight because it’s small, it’s bright, and it’s lightweight. He can easily fasten it in the holster and remove it, and it’s not bulky when doing routine traffic stops or while holding his flashlight and his gun.
3. Key Ring
This heavy duty key ring is great! I know some police officers that wear it on their duty belt and some officers that attach it to their duty bags. Whichever way your officer chooses to use it, I’m sure they’ll be happy to have the extra security of a key ring like this one.
4. Duty bag
If your officer is anything like Mr. Troop, they have a love affair with bags. We’ve got bug-out bags to supply the whole neighborhood! So, when he asked for a duty bag for his vehicle, I knew it had to live up to some pretty high standards. This bag holds everything he could want and fits nicely in the passenger seat, back seat, or trunk.
5. Range bag
Police officers tend to like going to the shooting range, so a nice, sturdy range bag is a great option! If they need room for a lot of guns and ammo (and, honestly, who doesn’t?), then Mr. Troop and I recommend this bad boy. It’s even got a great little spot in the front to add your own personal touch.
You might be thinking, wow, that’s a huge bag. But, your officer will love how roomy it is. And, they may find they only need this one bag for the range instead of having to take multiple bags just to carry all of their gear!
6. A personal coin or medallion
These are a great option because they’re small, can be personalized, and can be carried wherever. When Mr. Troop graduated from recruit school, I purchased him a little coin that says, “Be safe, I need you here with me.” I’m that cheesy kind of affectionate person, so I thought it was cute but was a little worried that Mr. Troop might find it silly. However, I bought it because it was a simple reminder that I was always thinking of him.
Imagine my surprise when I found out that he has been keeping it in his uniform pocket every day for the last five years! If I were a crier, I would shed a tear.
*Etsy is a great place to look for items like a medallion. In fact, that’s where I purchased mine, but the seller is no longer available.
7. History of the American Police Officer poster
Okay, I can’t remember if I found this one while aimlessly browsing the internet one day or if Mr. Troop found this while aimlessly browsing the internet one day. But, when Mr. Troop saw it, he instantly wanted it. So, if your officer is into history like mine is, this is a must-have item for the house, or man cave, or shop!
8. Tourniquet holster
I know that most posts give out tourniquets and holsters. However, I’ve seen the ones that Mr. Troop uses and after putting it on and taking it off shift after shift, it does not hold up well. Instead, he likes the heavier-duty ones you can purchase like this one. If you’re going to need a piece of equipment, you might as well have it handy and not have to worry about it falling apart when you need it most!
9. Extra magazines/holsters
I mean, you can never have too many holsters; am I right?
10. Snag magazine
Aside from being able to have extra mags on your duty belt, you can purchase a holster that clips into your uniform pocket for easy access right away. Mr. Troop always carries a pocket knife and a snag mag and recommends a snag mag to anyone asking.
11. Paracord bracelet
This isn’t a must have, but I know a whole ton of police officers that wear paracord bracelets. If they’re done properly, they can stand the test of time and can be so beneficial in many different circumstances.
I made Mr. Troop a paracord bracelet about nine years ago and he’s still wearing it. Besides being discolored and definitely getting some wear, he could still use it in case of an emergency! (I highly suggest making one or purchasing a good one. I made his with a special clasp because I just didn’t think I could rely on a plastic clip.)
12. G-Shock Watch
There are a ton of different watches out there. You don’t have to pick this brand in particular, but I will say we have had nothing but luck with ours. Mr. Troop got his watch first and has had it for several years. You can simply purchase new bands for them if they succumb to all the wear and tear. My brother received one for his birthday after seeing Mr. Troop’s, and then he purchased one for his brother-in-law after we got him his.
I was the last to receive my watch a few years ago; a white one for my birthday. I wear it every day and I love it! I used to have six different watches that I would rotate through based on my outfit, but once I got my G-Shock, I haven’t worn anything but that one. You can shower with it, swim with it, do just about anything with it! And, there are so many color options!
13. Alien Gear Holster
This one is a gift that won’t be used when your officer is on duty. However, it is great off duty. The Alien Gear Holster is so comfortable! And, they have tons of different options so that you can find the right fit and style for your officer.
14. Silicone rings
Finally, Mr. Troop’s newest item. He used to refuse to wear his wedding ring to work for a few different reasons. 1) He’s a private person and doesn’t need everyone he arrests to know he has a wife or family. 2) We’ve heard horror stories about officers (and others) getting their rings caught during a chase or a fight and having to have the ring cut off, or the skin on their finger being ripped off, etc. Because of this, Mr. Troop’s wedding ring went in the safe and rarely made an appearance after that due to the fact that he simply forgot about it.
Enter the Groove Ring. He had been wanting to start wearing his ring again (not to work, but just in general), and had heard a little bit about silicone rings. So, I started a month-long search for the perfect silicone ring. After comparing three of the top-selling brands for these rings, we both ordered from Groove Ring. He ordered this one with the American Flag on it, and I ordered this one to match his, but without the flag.
These rings are so comfortable that you don’t even know you’re wearing one. The sizing is pretty spot on (I made a mistake while ordering and the ring was too big- I had a new one three days after I received the first one!), and they don’t stretch out. They’re easy to clean, and the grooves make it so that nothing gets trapped under your ring!
Hopefully, you find something on this list that you haven’t already purchased or that you never even thought of! Let me know in the comments what your favorite gift for your LEO is!
